How to Choose an SEO Agency in Dubai: 10 Questions That Expose the Weak Ones
Roughly 8,000 businesses a month search for an SEO agency in Dubai. Here are the ten questions that tell you which ones are worth hiring.
Around eight thousand searches a month in the UAE are for some version of "SEO agency Dubai". That is a lot of people looking for the same thing, and a lot of agencies competing to be found by them. The awkward part is that the agencies best at ranking themselves are not always the ones best at ranking you.
These are the ten questions we would ask if we were hiring an SEO agency in Dubai, in the order that saves the most time. The first three eliminate most of the field.
1. Who owns the accounts and the work?
Ask before anything else. You should own the Google Analytics property, the Search Console account, the Google Business Profile, the domain, the hosting and every page written for you. Some agencies keep these in their own accounts, which means that when you leave, your historical data and sometimes your content leave with them.
The right answer is short: everything is in your name, you have admin access from day one, and nothing needs to be handed over because it was never theirs.
2. What exactly will you do in the first 90 days?
A serious answer names deliverables: a technical audit with fixes applied, keyword and competitor research, on-page work on a specific number of pages, Google Business Profile optimisation, internal linking, and a content plan. A weak answer talks about "optimising your presence".
Ask for it in writing before you sign. An agency that cannot describe its first quarter has not planned one.
3. How do you report, and on what?
Rankings alone are a vanity metric. A position for a keyword nobody searches is worth nothing, and rank trackers disagree with each other constantly. What matters is organic traffic to pages that make you money, enquiries from organic search, and cost per enquiry.
Ask to see a real report from an existing client, anonymised. If the report is a screenshot of a rank tracker and nothing else, you are being sold activity, not results.
4. Where do your backlinks come from?
This is where SEO gets people penalised. Ask directly: are links bought, are they placed on private blog networks, are they from UAE-relevant sites or from anywhere that will take money?
Bought links from irrelevant sites can work briefly and then cost you a manual action that takes months to recover from. Links from UAE directories, local press, partners, suppliers and genuine industry sites are slower and they hold.
5. How long before this works?
In a market as competitive as Dubai, expect movement on long-tail and location-specific terms within two to three months, and meaningful movement on competitive head terms at around six. Anyone promising page one for "SEO Dubai" or "real estate Dubai" in four weeks is either buying ads or guessing.
Read the guarantee carefully too. "Page one guaranteed" usually means page one for a keyword so specific that only your own brand name could rank for it.
6. Will you show me what is broken before I pay?
A free audit should tell you something you did not know: the pages Google has not indexed, the load time on mobile, the duplicate title tags, the Business Profile category that is wrong. If the audit is a PDF of generic scores with no fixes named, it is a sales document.
We run ours that way on purpose — you get the findings whether or not you continue, because an audit you cannot act on is not worth your time. You can see what that covers on our SEO services page.
7. Who actually does the work?
Dubai has plenty of agencies that win the pitch with a senior team and then hand the account to whoever is free, or subcontract it entirely. Ask who writes the content, who does the technical work, and whether any of it is outsourced.
The people on your kickoff call should be the people doing the work. If they cannot tell you that, assume it is being resold.
8. What happens to my content if we stop working together?
Some agencies host your blog on their own subdomain, or write content in a system you cannot export. When the relationship ends, the pages disappear and the rankings go with them.
Everything should live on your domain, in your CMS, exportable at any time.
9. Do you understand how people in the UAE actually search?
Dubai is an unusual market: a largely expatriate population searching mostly in English, often on mobile, frequently ending an enquiry in WhatsApp rather than a form. Local intent is strong — searches name Marina, JLT, Business Bay, Deira.
An agency that treats the UAE like any other English-speaking market will miss both the area-level terms and the fact that a WhatsApp chat is the conversion, not the contact page visit.
10. What does the contract let me do if it is not working?
Long lock-ins exist to protect the agency, not you. Six months is a reasonable minimum for SEO because that is when compounding starts, but after that you should be able to leave monthly, with your accounts and content intact.
Read the notice period, the ownership clause and what happens to work in progress.
What a reasonable answer set looks like
You are looking for an agency that can tell you what it will do, in what order, measured against a number you both agreed, with everything in your name. That is not a high bar, and it removes most of the field.
If you are weighing up options in the UAE, our Dubai services page sets out how we work with clients there — including the part most agencies avoid putting in writing: we are based in Karachi, one hour behind you, which is exactly why the same senior work costs less than it does from an agency paying Dubai rent.
