Choosing a Web Design Company in Dubai: How to Judge a Portfolio

Every Dubai web design portfolio looks good. These checks tell you which ones produce sites that actually work.

Choosing a Web Design Company in Dubai: How to Judge a Portfolio

Every web design portfolio in Dubai looks impressive, because a portfolio is a set of screenshots chosen by the seller. The useful question is not whether the work looks good but whether the sites behind the screenshots perform.

Three checks take ten minutes and tell you more than an hour of meetings.

Check the live sites, not the images

Open two or three portfolio sites on your phone, on mobile data rather than office wifi. Count the seconds to usable content. Then run them through PageSpeed Insights.

A studio whose own portfolio pieces load slowly on mobile will build you the same thing. In a market where most traffic is mobile and most people are moving, that is not a detail.

Ask who maintains it afterwards

Ask for a live demo of changing a headline and adding a page in the CMS they propose. Some beautiful builds are effectively read-only for anyone who is not a developer, which turns every small edit into an invoice and a two-day wait.

If the answer is "just send us the changes", price that into the cost of the site.

Establish ownership before the deposit

Domain in your name. Hosting account in your name. Source code delivered to you. Analytics property yours. Full CMS access.

This is where Dubai businesses most often discover a problem late: a domain registered in the agency's account, or a "custom" platform that turns out to be a licence that stops working when the relationship does. Ask in the first meeting, and get the answer in writing.

What should the quote actually contain?

  • Custom design or configured theme, stated plainly
  • Number of pages and templates
  • Who writes the content, and by when
  • Arabic, if needed, as its own line rather than "translation"
  • Performance target, tested on mobile before sign-off
  • Analytics and conversion tracking, including WhatsApp clicks
  • Support period after launch, and what counts as a bug

A quote that does not answer those is not a quote, it is a number.

Does the agency need to be in Dubai?

It depends what you are buying. In-person workshops, local photography and face-to-face meetings are real reasons to pay for a local studio.

If you are buying a website, the work happens in a browser, and a Dubai studio prices Dubai rent into every hour of it. We build from Karachi, an hour behind you, and invoice in AED - the trade-off is no one can walk into your office, which we would rather say than hide. The detail is on our Dubai page.

How long should a Dubai website take?

Six to ten weeks for a straightforward business site: structure and content planning, design, build, content, testing, launch. E-commerce or anything with integrations runs longer.

The delay is almost never the development. It is content - copy, photography, product data - sitting with whoever has a day job. Agree in week one who writes what and when, and the timeline usually holds.

What should you expect to pay for ongoing care?

A site is not a one-off purchase. Hosting, SSL, CMS and plugin updates, backups and occasional fixes are a small monthly commitment, and skipping them is how a working site becomes a security problem eighteen months later.

Ask what is included after launch, what response time applies, and whether updates are tested on staging before production. A studio that disappears at launch leaves you with software quietly going out of date.

Do you need a rebuild, or a repair?

Plenty of sites that feel dated are structurally sound and simply slow, badly organised or written for the wrong reader. A focused round of work - speed, content, a clearer path to enquiry, proper tracking - often costs a fraction of a rebuild and moves the numbers more.

A studio that inspects your current site and tells you a rebuild is unnecessary has just talked itself out of a large invoice. That is worth more than any portfolio.

One question that sorts most shortlists

Ask: "What would you change about my current site, and why?"

Anyone who has looked will answer in specifics within a minute - the hero says nothing, the forms are not tracked, the images are four megabytes. Anyone who has not will talk about modern design and user experience. You are hiring the first answer.
